An Affidavit is a written statement made under oath attesting to the truthfulness of any information provided on the legal document. The statement is made before a Notary Pubic and Notarized. An affidavit can be used as evidence in a Court of Law in lieu of a verbal testimony. A person making any false statement on an Affidavit can be charged of Perjury and can be imprisoned. Another name for an Affidavit is a Sworn Statement.
