The SAT Reasoning Test (Scholastic Aptitude Test or Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized exam administered by the College Board and used by colleges to measure prospective students' literacy, math and writing skills. The test takes 3:35 hours to complete, and scores range from 200-800 on each section (Mathematics, Critical Reading and Writing) for a total score range of 600-2400.
The ACT (American College Testing) is a second standardized test used by colleges in the U.S. to measure students' preparedness for college. The ACT historically consisted of 4 sections including English, Mathematics, Reading and Science Reasoning, but in 2005 a Writing component was added, which is optional. All U.S. colleges and universities accept the ACT for admissions.
